Velo Club Roubaix is primarily a road bike club, with members drawn mostly from Chicago's north and northwest suburbs. During the main biking season, we have road rides on every weekend day. The rides start from Jaycee Park in Deerfield on Saturdays and from Northcroft Park in Lake Forest on Sundays.
Maps of many of our regular routes are linked on the right side of this page. These rides generally vary from 45 to 70 miles in length and last from 2 1/2 to 4 hours. While we often stop once at a convenient store during the second half of each ride, our rides have no SAG or support. Riders are expected to bring enough food, fluids, tubes, tools, and money to be self-sufficient.
Everyone rides at his or her own risk and is required to sign the linked waiver and release. By participating in one of our rides, you automatically agree to the terms of the waiver and release, even if we fail to collect a signed copy from you.
On both Saturday and Sunday we divide into A and B rides. The A ride is an aggressive ride which has large stretches at 28 to 32 mph. The B ride is more moderate, yet follows the same route as the A ride. It usually tops out at 25 mph and averages 20 mph.
In the off season, some of us take to the trails and others stick to the roads, depending on conditions.
Because our club and rides are pretty big, we ask that any riders who want to join us do so at the invitation of a club member. If you don't know anyone in the club and want to talk about joining or riding along, or if you otherwise want to contact the club, please send an email to our president: prezvcr@gmail.com.
